The shocking reason Anna Nicole Smith died

UPDATE: Anna Nicole Smith's autopsy report reveals that Anna's "anus is unremarkable."

In the eight page report obtained by TMZ, Dr. Perper describes, in detail, the condition of Anna's body.

The report lists every mark on Anna's body, even tattoos. Smith's body art included the words "Daniel" and "Papas," a pair of red lips, a Playboy bunny, a combination of a Christ head, a bible, a naked women's torso and a smiling Marilyn Monroe among others.

On a positive note, Anna's fingernails and toenails were both listed as "clean."

Anna Nicole Smith died back in February and finally the Medical Examiner for Broward County, Florida is revealing the true cause of her death and HOLY CRAP! The TMZ main page is on Fire!

Anna's Cause of Death Revealed
After performing an autopsy, it became clear, Anna Nicole Smith died of an accidental overdose of medication.

Dr. Joshua Perper, the Medical Examiner for Broward County, just announced the 39-year-old former Playboy playmate was taking a number of drugs, including methadone, anti-anxiety drugs among others.

Stern In the Dark
Dr. Perper says Anna's temperature went down after the first tough night at the Hard Rock, but she exhibited vomiting and as the week wore on her condition deteriorated. On the last day of her life, Thursday, February 8, Dr. Perper says Howard K. Stern woke up at 10:00 AM and found Anna awake. Stern helped her to the bathroom and then she went back to bed and went to sleep.

Dr. Perper says Stern left the room and didn't return until after 911 was called.

And finally, he states the obvious.

Drug Combo Killed Anna
Anna did not take methadone the day she died, but there was evidence she had taken it several days earlier.

Dr. Perper concluded was combined drug intoxication, including anxiety and depression medication, valium, ativan and antihistamine. She also had chloral hydrate, which was the major component in her death.

Yep, a lethal drug combo. I think half the world guessed this one. I interviewed a kid in the deep Brazilian jungle who knew Anna died of drugs.

Death Accidental -- Not Suicide
None of the drugs in Anna's system were enough to kill her by themselves -- it was a lethal combo.

The infected abscess in her buttock contributed.

Dr. Perper says the death was accidental. It was not a suicide.

Accidental and NOT suicide. Hmmmm, do they have an accidental suicide category? Just wondering. Carry on.

Perper -- Death Definitely Not Suicide, Not a Homicide
Anna Nicole Smith was recovering from her depression at the time of her death, but she had not made statements about suicide in the weeks prior to her death.

Dr. Joshua Perper says Anna did not try to commit suicide when she fell in a pool shortly after Daniel died. It was an accident caused by too many drugs.

Dr. Perper says Anna's computer was helpful in determining her state of mind. There was no suicide attempt.

Although, there are still BIG questions.

Who Injected Anna? Needle Infection Caused Big Problems
Some of the drugs Anna Nicole Smith had taken were prescribed to her -- some under an alias and some prescribed to other people but intended for her. TMZ first reported that a Beverly Hills doctor sent prescriptions to Anna's Bahamas address but they were prescribed for an unknown person.

Dr. Perper says the injection that caused the buttock infection did not in and of itself cause her death. It is unclear who administered the injection that broke the abscess open, but it was not the linchpin of her death.

Still, it created significant health issues for Smith. Dr. Perper says when his team went back and examined Anna Nicole, he found multiple injections in the left buttock and it appeared a needle perforated something under the skin that caused an infection. The needle perforated an abscess and caused the infection that led to a high fever.

She had injected a drug into her left buttock days before her death. Dr. Joshua Perper announced that when Anna Nicole flew to Miami before she died, she was complaining of pain in her left cheek.

She developed chills as she went to the Hard Rock and developed a fever of 105 degrees, but she refused to go to the hospital, a decision that may have proved fatal.

She could have actually lived.

Anna Could Have Lived
Anna Nicole Smith might have been alive if she had gone to the hospital for treatment.

Anna's medications were prescribed "by a number of doctors," according to Dr. Perper. It is unclear if each doctor knew what the others were prescribing.

Dr. Perper could not determine the precise time of death. She was alive at 10:00 AM and was in distress at 1:30 PM, but the exact time could not be pinpointed.

And finally...

Computer Was Key Evidence
The additional evidence was information contained in Anna's computer. TMZ is told that the laptop computer was actually owned by Howard K. Stern.

Stern gave authorities access to the computer. The laptop helped determine the manner of death. Authorities were looking to see if there were e-mails showing the possibility of suicide or homicide but neither were found.

Anna had not expressed fear that someone would kill her nor did she express a desire to die in the weeks before her death, this according to a search of the computer.

So in the end, Anna Nicole was taking a bunch of drugs including valium, ativan, antihistimine and chloral hydrate. She was also taking some muscle relaxers.
