A flailing war in the Middle East, an economic crisis that some have compared to the Great Depression and our wise and learned (and elected leaders) turn their attention to baseball, the great American past time.
The recent epiphany that some athletes use performance-enhancing drugs should come as a shock only to those that have lived in caves for the past, oh, thirty years.
All-Star shortstop Miguel Tejada has now been charged with lying to Congress about his involvement in such deviance as using steroids. With any luck he’ll be punished just like Olly North, but that might be asking too much these days.
If you want baseball to be America’s favorite sport then you have to stop ruining it with Congressional intervention. He did drugs he shouldn’t have, but we’re not burning Michael Phelps at the stake. The entire United States has lost its sense of perspective, in my opinion. Take a hit from a bong, take a shot of ‘roids from time to time – let’s focus on the big item issues. Iraq, Iran, the Middle East, foreign oil independence and let the world of sports just do what it’s supposed to – entertain.
