Will Smith is finally speaking out about his pal Tom Cruise regarding the whole Scientology thing that's always causing such a stir in the press.

He said the criticism Cruise, 45, has received for his Scientology faith has been "painful for me to see. I've met very few people committed to goodness the way Tom is."

The Hancock star, 39 - who was rumored to have converted to Scientology after speaking out about the controversial religion - was raised Baptist and said he remains Christian.

"We disagree on a lot of things," added Smith, who attended Nelson Mandella's 90th birthday in London on Wednesday. "But even with different faiths and different beliefs, at the end of the day, goodness is goodness."

He said that their friendship thrives on rivalry.

They currently compete to see who can sign autographs longer.

"It's hard to beat that dude," Smith said. "He has another gear. He did two-and-a-half hours in France for Mission: Impossible on the red carpet. Now when I go to France, people will say, 'You know, Tom was out here for two-and-a-half hours.'"

You see? Tom is all about goodness. It's just too bad that his goodness comes from an alien soul that was trapped here on Earth in a volcano. My goodness just comes from me being a nice guy. Then again...that alien soul has gotten Tom like $50 million while I have considerably less. Maybe I do need one of those alien souls. How exactly do you get one anyway? Does the church give them out like communion or what?

I checked out this website and you can too, but only at your own risk. You see...I noticed immediately that there was some type of trance type music playing and in some pages there were backgrounds changing over and over showing Tom in various movies he's done. I'm pretty sure they also snuck in some hidden messaging about stealing my soul to feel the immortal Xenu, but don't quote me on that.

According to The Scoop over at MSNBC, Tom Cruise is going in for a second round with Oprah. Nobody who has seen it has managed to forget his couch jumping, faux declarations of love 2 years ago.

Is it wrong I'm hoping he brings Katie-bot and Suri (The Most Gorgeously Creepy Baby Alive) along for the ride?

This so has to be a sweeps thing because another episode slated for the 30th has David Blaine attempting to beat the record for holding your breath under water. He has apparently run out of magic and has downgraded to stunts kids pull at Summer Camp.

Those are the latest reports that claim Katie Holmes wants to take daughter Suri to New York City with her, alone. She's been offered a role on Broadway and wants to get away from her controlling husband Tom Cruise in a trial separation.

"She desperately needs to be on her own for a while, but there's no way Tom is going to let her take Suri away," an insider tells Star. "There's no way he'll allow it. He just doesn't want Katie - or Suri - out of his sight for long. He told her that if she goes to New York, fine, but he goes with her."

Further, the couple's tug of war over their daughter has intensified as of late.

"Tom wants to call all the shots when it comes to Suri," says an insider. "He has a lot of rules, and there's conflict."

Is it really Tom she's wanting to get away from, or just all the rules of the Church of Scientology. Over the last while it sure looks like Katie is getting more haggard and run down. It's like someone is eating her soul. Wait a minute...

Tom Cruise's former friend and Scientologist Jason Beghe is now out of the religion and now speaking out against it. It's pretty interesting to hear what he has to say, even if he does drop like 30 F-bombs.

Beghe, who was a member of the Church of Scientology for 13 years and was even featured in a promotional video for the church in 2005, now says, "Scientology is destructive and a rip-off."

In the video, billed as a three-minute teaser to a longer interview that's on its way, Beghe goes on to say, "It's very, very dangerous for your spiritual, psychological, mental, emotional health and evolution. I think it stunts your evolution. If Scientology is real, then something's [bleeped] up . . . It ain't delivering what it's promised. It sure has not."

Beghe wasn't just a peon in the church. The actor, who's best friends with David Duchovny, spent a lot of money to make it to the coveted "OT 5" level achieved by Cruise, John Travolta and Kirstie Alley.

But Beghe now warns, "The further up the bridge, the worse you get . . . I don't have an agenda. I'm just trying to help. I have the luxury of having gotten into Scientology and after having been in it, been out. And that's a perspective that people who are still in and not out do not have."

The Church of Scientology is going for more African American membership by hoping to use people like Will Smith and Kimora Lee Simmons. The church opened up a soul eating center in Harlem back in 2003.

"It's not so much that anyone is upset that Will is becoming a Scientologist," the source added after seeing a copy of the nine-page Radar piece. "It's that as he becomes more involved, you'd think he'd sort of help fly the flag with Tom (Cruise), who seems to only get a bad rap for it, while Will does this and comes through just fine."

As for Kimora Lee Simmons, the Radar piece makes the case for including her among the ranks of celebrity Scientologists. The magazine points to a 2006 gathering where Scientology leader David Miscavige "spoke glowingly of Kimora Lee Simmons' efforts to distribute a personalized edition of Hubbard's "The Way to Happiness," featuring her image on the cover, to school kids in New Jersey." Simmons' rep said that the designer/model is not a Scientologist.

Kimora has been passing out a special edition of founder L. Ron Hubbard's "The Way to Happiness" with her face on it? That's freaky. Some other soul-munchers you might or might not know about in Hollywood are: Kirstie Alley (she's like a double-stuffed Xenu), Lisa Marie Presley, Jenna Elfman , Beck, Isaac Hayes, Juliette Lewis (I can't stand her), Giovanni Ribisi (who I actually like a lot), and Greta Van Susteren (I know there was something odd about her.)

The church also plans to build a giant soul collection facility, or so I've heard, but I can't back that one up.
